Aurora English TUTORING PROGRAM
We connect college students from the US, UK, Australia, Hong Kong, and India with enthusiastic North Korean refugee students living in South Korea and the US. Through our conversation-based tutoring program, our students gain access to English native speakers and develop valuable hard skills in the English language, often needed to pass exams that boost career opportunities in South Korea or that are required for studying in a foreign country.
As of April 2023, our active tutors represent universities across the United States, including Harvard, UChicago, UPenn, Northwestern, Yale, Vanderbilt, Princeton, Emory, Georgia Tech, Duke, Case Western, University of Michigan, USC, UCLA, as well as universities in other countries, including the University of Oxford, Cambridge University, University of Sydney, University of Hong Kong, University of Delhi, and more. Over 460 North Korean refugee students have joined the Aurora Tutoring Network.
North Korean refugee students meet with our tutors twice a week for 30 minutes over Zoom. For students who wish to study grammar and writing in addition to speaking, Aurora has created resources for both students and tutors to use.
