TUTORING PROGRAM

We connect college students from the US, UK, Australia, and Hong Kong with enthusiastic North Korean refugee students living in South Korea and the US. Through our conversation-based tutoring program, our students gain access to native speakers of English and develop the valuable hard skill of English language, which is often necessary to pass exams that boost career opportunities in South Korea and required for studying in a foreign country.

As of June 2021, our active tutors represent universities across the United States, including Harvard, University of Chicago, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Emory, Georgia Tech, Duke, Case Western, University of Michigan, University of Southern California, UCLA, and more. We also have tutors from other countries, including the University of Oxford, Cambridge University, University of Sydney, and the University of Hong Kong. Over 130 students of North Korean refugee students are working or have worked with us.

North Korean refugee students meet with our tutors twice a week for 30 minutes over Zoom. For students who wish to study grammar and writing in addition to speaking, the Aurora team has created resources for both students and tutors to use.
