About Us

Co-founders Woori Lee and Jay Lee came together with an idea to form an organization that would address gaps in the North Korean community in the United States. Talking with members of the community and surveying North Koreans living in South Korea, they identified key areas where they could provide resources and services to people who wanted help. Together, they started Aurora in Los Angeles, California. With the help of students from the University of Southern California and the University of California, Los Angeles, Aurora’s tutoring program began, connecting college-aged English speakers with North Korean students. Aurora’s network has since grown to involve student-teacher volunteers from universities across the globe.

Aurora’s board is comprised entirely of volunteers who offer their valuable time and talent to help develop our programs. In the past, we’ve had dozens of young leaders representing countries worldwide who have lent us their skills from diverse backgrounds. We are always on the lookout for promising talent to help us make our communities a better place.
